Mormons aren’t really giving their children a choice at age 8. I know I didn’t at that age. If my Run AMC for WSB Apes Shirt did give me options, why then am I not aware of them? How can any parent expect their young child to make an honest choice of religious beliefs without knowing the options available to them? How can any person make an informed distinction between what is the potential true religion and all other false religions if they don’t know what the differences are between the religions? Any good Latter-day Saint will tell you that God’s plan requires people to use individual agency to decide what to believe and how to live their life. But most deny their own children that very same, critical gospel principle.
